The aim of the foundation is to establish and provide for the maintenance of the Közép-Európai Egyetem, furthermore, carrying out educational and research activities, including external teaching as well. The health care of the students and of the employees, with special regard to outpatient attendance forms part of the support of the Közép-Európai Egyetem. The name of the educational institution maintained at present by the Foundation is: Central European University, briefly: CEU.
Following the establishment of the Foundation in 1991, CEU Inc., the institution registered as a university in the state of New York that had won the “Absolute Charter”, was established, which is operated in Hungary by the Foundation. Therefore the Founder decides that the Foundation shall cooperate closely with CEU Inc. when utilizing the 20 million USD yearly amounts paid from the 250 million USD financial fund established in order to support educational and financial programs, which utilization is realized through the Foundation concerning the Hungarian programs. The cooperation shall be in accordance with the Hungarian Act on higher education and other relevant Hungarian educational laws and precedents as well as the laws and precedents of the United States and the state of New York.
